Is Your AC Leaking Water? These May Be the Reasons

Is Your AC Leaking Water? These May Be the ReasonsIs Your AC Leaking Water? These May Be the Reasons

Water leaks are one of the most common air conditioning problems. This issue is relatively easy to solve in most cases, but it may lead to costly repairs if not addressed immediately. So, without further ado, these are the three most common reasons why AC units leak water.

Dirty Filters

As we have mentioned in previous posts, dirty filters are a seemingly simple problem that can cause a variety of issues with your AC. One of those problems is evaporator coils that freeze due to the lack of airflow. When the frost melts, it results in water leaks. Remember: you should change your filters every 1-3 months or as indicated in your owner’s manual.

Damaged Drain Pan

The drain pan, or condensate pan, is located under your evaporator coil to collect the water that drips from it. Over a long period of time, the drain pan may rust or crack, preventing water from draining outside. In some cases, the drain pan is simply misplaced and all you had to do is set it in its correct position to solve the problem.

Clogged Drain Line

After collecting in the drain pan (see the previous section), the water that drips from the evaporator coil drains outside through a drain line. However, the buildup of debris and grime in the line may clog it, causing the water to back up onto your floor.  A trained AC technician should be able to solve this problem easily and in almost no time at all.
