Having a pet is fun and extremely rewarding, but it also entails paying extra attention to your AC to ensure that everyone in your home is comfortable—including your animal friends.

Pay Attention to Your Filters

If you have fur-bearing pets, such as cats or dogs, you must always keep an eye on your AC filters. As we have mentioned in previous posts, clean filters are key to ensuring that your unit works at its best and keeps you comfortable. However, the hair released by your pets may accumulate on the filters, clogging them and reducing the efficiency of your unit. Luckily, you can solve this problem by checking your filters often and changing them when necessary.

Protect Your Outdoor Unit

Your outdoor condenser unit is a huge temptation to your pets. Dogs in particular may try to urinate on it, causing damage that may be costly to repair. To keep your outside unit in optimal conditions you may consider

Installing a fence (not a solid one, though), or planting bushes around it. In any case, remember that any protection should be placed at least three feet away from the unit, so as not to interfere with airflow.

Reptiles and Amphibians

As amazing as they are, there are many different types of pets beyond cats and dogs. If you are a fan of reptiles or amphibians, temperature is particularly important, so you may want to take some basic precautions, like placing your pet’s cage away from direct sunlight, and ensuring that they are not under a stream of cold air. Every species is different, so check with a veterinarian to determine the ideal conditions for your pet.
